Kavita

Kavita

My name is Kavita Maharaj and I have recently graduated from university. I started running at the age of 8 and it was through training at Churchie that I first met Monty. I’ve always admired Monty as a runner, but it was after his battle with leukaemia that I truly got to know him and respect him as a person. Despite the adversity he’s had to face in life (and at such a young age too), Monty has come out the other side fighting. While it would be easy for most people to submit and feel sorry for themselves, Monty has got right back into running and pushes himself at every session. He is an inspiration to all.

I am honoured to be a part of this run, not only because of its cause but also the great company that I will get to share with all of these amazing people. From a personal position, I have lost some close family members and friends to cancer – and whilst donating and volunteering has allowed me to contribute in some small way, I feel privileged at having the opportunity to help in a way that also combines my love for running.

In today’s egotistic world, what Monty is trying to do is such a selfless act – and it comes as no surprise as he is the most unselfish person I know. I urge everyone to support this cause with whatever donations they can spare – big or small.
